2013 Summary

The Friends have had a fantastic year raising in excess of £3,800 for the school with the many events that have been organised throughout the academic year.

Along with funding carried over from last year, the Friends have purchased the Coomber equipment for Year 2, the sound system for the school and are also financing the purchase of a projector for the school.
The Friends have also financed the children’s Christmas party and the leaver’s party and contributed to the panto, summer term trips and the end of school trips.

Without the help of you, the parents, we would not be able to organise and fund the events that we do and contribute to the education of our children. We would love to see some new faces and hear new ideas in September. Details of our next meeting will be added to the calendar and the newsletter, so keep an eye out.

Thank you!

Umberslade Farm

On Friday the whole school went to Umberslade Farm for our end of year trip. When we arrived the first animals we met were the pigs which came in all shapes and sizes! After that we fed some corn to the chickens and then we fed the calves with milk from a bottle. Next we went to the small animals area where we held rabbits, guinea pigs, chicks and rats and then we climbed on board the trailer for a bumpy tractor ride around the field. After lunch we had a great time on the adventure play area before milking a very patient goat.

What a busy day we had. Finally it was time for home and it was a much quieter journey back to school! The children all had a great day and were a credit to our school.

School Trip to Umberslade Farm Park

On Friday we set off on our school trip to Umberslade Farm Park in Tanworth in Arden. The weather was beautiful and we were all extremely excited! While we were there we fed calves and goats, held some adorable baby animals, saw the pigs and went on a tractor ride. We also got to play outside on the playground in the sun. We ate our lunch in a cool barn with the rest of the school. Everyone had a fantastic day and we were sorry to get back on the coach at the end.

KS2 Sports Morning

As our end of topic treat, the teachers decided that we would have a sports morning in the sunshine. We were in rainforest animal teams, each with a team captain. On Tuesday afternoon we practised our skills ready to win! On Wednesday morning we took part in races, a rounders game and we even had a ice lolly to cool down in the shade half way through. Well done to the ‘Cheetahs’ who were the winning team!

Sports Day 2013

Last Friday we had our annual Sports day and this year it didn’t rain! We took part in all the races for our houses. Sapphire won! Then we had a picnic with our families afterwards. It was a great day. Thank you to all our parents who came and cheered us on.

Sports Afternoon at Sytchampton

On a very hot Friday Beech Class went to Sytchampton First school for an afternoon of Sport. We were put into teams and enjoyed trying out many different activities. Dodge ball, javelin, football and beanbag throwing were just a few of the activities. When all the scores were added up Ombersley won! Well done Beech Class. It was a great afternoon and we enjoyed getting to know some of the Sytchampton children. Thank you to Mrs Pittaway for taking us there in the minibus.

Maypole dancing

Year 2 have enjoyed learning how to Maypole dance, ready for next year. It was a lot harder than we thought!

Sports Day 2013

KS2 Production

A huge well done to all the children in KS2 for their wonderful performances of ‘Alice the Musical’. Everyone acted and sung their hearts out and we were very proud. Thank you to all the staff who helped and to the parents for making the beautiful costumes. Pictures to follow!

Last Wednesday the rain held off long enough for us to have our annual tennis lesson at Ombersley tennis club. We did a warm up first to help us think about moving effectively around the tennis court. We played lots of short games against different partners whilst Luke gave us tips about how to improve. We were loads better than we were last year!

Science Week

We have just got to the end of our exciting Eco Science Week. We have found out a lot about being eco-friendly this week and have enjoyed lots of science outside. These are some of the activities that we have enjoyed:

On Monday we had a recycling challenge. We tried to bring in as much as recycling as we could. As a class we collected a fantastic 16.2kg of recycling! In maths we sorted it and measured it accurately using scales. We tried to turn it into something useful for someone in the rainforest.

On Tuesday we had a visit from Animal Mania.  We met lots of beautiful animals from the Rainforest.  It was very interesting to find out which rainforest layer they lived in.

Wednesday was World Environment Day. We thought about the ways in which we can be more eco-friendly and help to combat global warming.

On Thursday we were comparing the different animals and how they are suited to their environment. We went into the forest in the morning to hunt for minibeasts and identify them using keys. We also discussed how they were adapted to suit life in a forest.

In the afternoon we learnt how to pond dip.  We explored the pond using nets and saw lots of different stages of the frog life cycle.  It was fantastic!

On Friday we dressed up as minibeasts and some of us even had our faces painted.  We wrote about the Amazon Rainforest, made eco-friendly newspaper plant pots and had a fun outside activity.
