At Ombersley Endowed First School we pride ourselves on a broad knowledge of all of our children as individuals. We build self-esteem with positive learning experiences and successfully involve children with whole school life through quality first teaching and an inclusive ethos. We recognise SEND with the intention of addressing unmet needs, enabling children to have an ability to engage fully with learning, develop skills and knowledge to achieve, succeed and excel across all areas of the curriculum. Teaching staff continually strive to fully understand their pupils and comprehensively meet their needs.
The school follows guidance as outlined in the SEND Code of Practice and Worcestershire’s Ordinarily Available document. A link to this guidance can be found here: http://www.worcestershire.gov.uk/downloads/file/7316/special_educational_needs_ordinarily_available
Both able bodied and children with physical disabilities are welcome at Ombersley Endowed First School. Parents should discuss their child’s particular needs with the Headteacher prior to applying for admission. The majority of the school building is wheelchair friendly.
Whatever a child’s needs we feel that they are most effectively met by working closely with parents to ensure we offer the best possible outcomes. We put the parents and the children themselves at the heart of our inclusive practice. These take many forms, for example: individual review meetings; multi-agency meetings, parent support, parent workshops; or home-school liaison books/ emails. We welcome parental involvement.
If you do have any concerns about your child then please do come into school. The class teachers or the SENDCo (Miss Cartwright) will be happy to listen to your concerns and the SENDCo is usually available by appointment. This can be for children already identified with an additional need or you have any concerns about your child’s progress or development. Miss Cartwright’s email address is firstname.lastname@example.org. for those who would rather communicate by email or are unable to attend an appointment at school.
