Separating Materials

This week in our topic lessons we have had a science focus again. We learnt about solids and liquids and we tested a range of materials to see if they dissolved. We learnt which materials were soluble and which were insoluble. Next we learnt a variety of techniques to separate solids from liquids and we applied these skills to an interesting look concoction! We decided which methods were the most effective and how to achieve the best results.

On Wednesday we found out that some people who live in India and St. Lucia do not have access to clean water. We were set the challenge of using the skills we had learnt to clean our own dirty water. The results were fantastic and we even thought the winning group had put tap water into their bowl! We were able to suggest hints and tips to help those people who do not have clean water.

It was a fantastic week and we had a lot of scientific fun!

Year 3 Music

This term we been lucky enough to have Mrs. Robinson coming to teach us music. She has used her expertise to teach us about rhythm and we have also been practising our singing. Below are pictures of us composing our own melodies using chime bars and bells. We are having our big performance next week!

Welcome back!

Welcome to Chestnut class! Everyone has settled in well and we have had a fantastic (and busy) first week back. On Monday we went on our Evacuation trip on the Severn Valley Railway. We learnt lots about evacuees and we enjoyed lots of practical activities including going into an Anderson shelter and making a rag rug. It was a wonderful day and what we learnt will be useful throughout our topic.

KS2 Production

A huge well done to all the children in KS2 for their wonderful performances of ‘Alice the Musical’. Everyone acted and sung their hearts out and we were very proud. Thank you to all the staff who helped and to the parents for making the beautiful costumes. Pictures to follow!
